A man from Florence, Massachusetts, thinks he may have set a Guinness World Record while floating down the Connecticut River in a giant pumpkin. Dave Rothstein paddled more than 40 miles from South Deerfield to Hoke in a pumpkin weighing over 1,000 pounds.
He's attempting to beat the old record set last year, which was 375 miles. People on shore clapped for him as he wrapped up a journey that took more than three days. Rothstein stated that he's doing it to raise awareness for protecting the Connecticut River. He's still waiting for certification from the Guinness Book of World Records.
We know that achieving this certification is no small feat, considering events like the Damiscotta Pumpkin Festival, where participants struggle with a pumpkin regatta resulting in people falling into the water, but not paddling 40 miles. It's surprising he chose this time of the year; perhaps the water is a bit cold. Regardless, Rothstein's feat is unique and has garnered attention as he awaits official recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records.
